The other day in class we talked about magazines and their innovations. Three important innovations of the magazines were investigative reporting, personality profiles and photojournalism. I personally think that investigative reporting is the most important.
I feel investigative reporting is most important because it made not only newspaper journalist but also magazine journalist watch dogs. Journalistic watchdogs always keep power figures in society in check. They do this by keeping the power figures on their toes because they know that at any moment one of their scandals could be discovered and printed in the next issue. Besides telling the truth I think the most important part of journalism is being a watch dog so investigative journalism really gets that one.
